E3 2017 Official Topic


E3 is around the corner! Just like previously done here at VGHQ, Supper and I will be bringing you the news from E3

This year E3 will be happening between June 13th and June 15th at the LA convention center.
For the those of you who are unfamiliar with this epic-ly ginormous event here is a little rundown:

 

The Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly referred to as E3, is an annual trade fair for the video game industry
presented by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). It is used by many video game publishers and accessory
manufacturers to introduce and advertise upcoming games and game-related merchandise.
 Of course, this will also bring in fans and media. Sadly, none of us will be around the floor this time around either,
but we will try our best to make it as clear as possible on what is happening on the floor in LA.

Sony's E3 Briefing

 

 

Sony will be taking a different approach, yet again, on bringing the news to their fans. On Monday, June 12th, they will have

their briefing in more than 85 movie theatres across the USA, Canada and Latin America. 

 

Everyone attending one of the shows will get an exclusive poster and the #76 card from the PlayStation Collectable Card series.

Sony has said that these "gifts" will not be offered anywhere else. Attendees will also get a digital gift basket

chock-full of goodies from the PlayStation Store. 

 

Tickets for the Experience are free and can be claimed via this website: playstation.com/E3experience

starting on May 30th at 10AM PDT/ 1 PM EDT / 7 PM BST.

However these tickets will only be free in the USA and Canada. Be aware, tickets won't guarantee

entry to the show, as seats are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Sony E3 briefing will take place on Monday, june 12th starting at 6 PM PDT/ 9PM EDT.

Ubisoft's E3 briefing

 

 

Ubisoft has just confirmed their line up of their E3 show. 

Unlike other years this time Aisha Tyler won't be hosting the show,

instead mainly developers will be doing the talking.

 

The E3 conference will be held on

Your Hero (and Classes) Grow With You

Four new classes make their debut in Star Wars Battlefront II, each bringing unique abilities to their team. Nimble Assault troopers blaze through the center of battle while shielded Heavy troopers hold the line. Officers rally their allies while stealthy Specialists strike at foes from a distance. You’ll have the power to take control of each of these classes and build your skills, improve your weapons with attachments, and harness unique, modifiable abilities.

Troopers and Heroes alike are highly customizable thanks to a brand new, completely revamped, and far larger Star Card system. As you journey through Star Wars Battlefront II, you’ll constantly be earning and crafting new Star Cards, opening up a huge number of distinctive ways to upgrade your abilities. With every triumph, you’ll move closer to unlocking greater power for your favorite trooper classes, heroes, and starfighters.

 

Increased Depth and Choices with Battle Points

Commanding a vehicle or becoming a hero are tied into an entirely new system: Battle Points. Everything you do to help your team in multiplayer earns you Battle Points. These points can be used between spawns to unlock your favorite heroes, vehicles, or reinforcement characters. Battle Points require you to constantly balance risk and reward. Will you save them for the most powerful heroes, or spend them freely to reap quick rewards?

 

Each of these new classes, vehicles, reinforcements, and heroes fulfills a specific purpose on the team. Each time they spawn, players will deploy together into a new four-player spawn wave, with visibility in the respawn lobby allowing them to coordinate their choices. See two of your teammates loading up as Officers? Maybe you'll want to choose Specialist instead to create a more cohesive unit. Once they've spawned into battle, these temporary squads will do better when they stick together.

 

Reinforcements Are Coming

You’ve already learned about troopers and heroes, but you might be wondering about reinforcements, an entirely new Star Wars Battlefront II feature. Reinforcements are unique Star Wars™ units that bring potent new abilities to multiplayer battles.

A mix between troopers and heroes, they have exceptional abilities all their own. On Theed, we met a few Reinforcements, the B2 Super Battle Droid and Clone Jumptrooper, and you’ll see more on the way to launch.

 

Experience Three Eras of War

Visitors to EA PLAY got hands-on time with the Theed multiplayer battle, commanding Separatist battle droids against a valiant band of Clone troopers defending the royal palace. The prequel-era engagement was just one of many epic Star Wars moments previewed, as the new trailer highlighted battlegrounds from across Star Wars’ three cinematic eras. Rey and Kylo Ren crossed sabers in a furious clash on Starkiller Base, Wookiee warriors roared over the waters of Kashyyyk, and Death Troopers stormed the jungle vastness of the Rebel base on Yavin 4.

 

You’ll be seeing much more of what’s coming from each era in the coming months, but get set to control iconic heroes, choose special reinforcements, and pilot distinctive vehicles on some of your favorite planets from the prequels, original trilogy, and Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™.

 

Starting with Season 1 in December, Post-Launch Content Will be Free*

There's also big news on content coming after the game’s release. All post-launch heroes, maps, weapons, and vehicles will be free* for everyone who plays Star Wars Battlefront II. This starts with the Star Wars: The Last Jedi™ season coming this December, where all Star Wars Battlefront II players will have access to Finn, Captain Phasma, the new planet Crait, and more.

Today we unveiled Anthem, EA’s newest IP. Our team at BioWare hand-crafted an entire new world, and equally as important, an entirely new experience. This isn’t like any BioWare game you’ve played before – in fact, it’s unlike any game we’ve ever made at EA.

 

As a player, there’s nothing quite like thrill of discovering new games and experiences. It’s why I have always loved playing games, and why I try to play everything. Seeing how much innovation there is in the industry across all corners – interactive storytelling, social gameplay, visual fidelity, live services -- drives our teams to push the boundaries and deliver the unexpected.

 

As a developer, all of this excitement can also be frightening. Starting from a clean sheet – no genre, no story, no gameplay design or systems, etc. – almost everything has to go right to see a new IP all the way through. And the truth of the matter is, a lot of great ideas on paper, never realize their full potential.

The time and investment is why new IP can be so risky. But when you think you have something special… you have to go for it.

 

And that’s what we have with Anthem. Ever since I heard the original concept, I’ve had a special passion for this game. I love the contrast of the beautiful, lush world with savage, exotic beasts. Seeing the advanced technology of the Javelin suits, contrast with the primitive and brutal ruthlessness of the environment.

Our team has incredible ambition for this title. They’re telling a new story, creating a social, co-operative experience, and putting it in a contiguous open world that is dynamic and will be ever-changing for years to come.

 

The time is right for a game like Anthem. The power of new consoles, the way genres are evolving and blending into each other, the way we are playing games together for longer periods of time through live service. You are going to love this game, this world and this experience. We can’t wait to share it with you in the Fall of 2018.

A Way Out

 

 

 

Officially unveiled at EA Play 2017, A Way Out is a couch or online co-op only game where you play the role of one of two prisoners in a daring escape over and beyond the prison walls.

 

What begins as a thrilling escape quickly turns into an emotional adventure unlike anything seen & played before. A Way Out is a two-player experience. Each player controls one of the main characters, working together to escape the prison and continue beyond into each character’s lives. It is a game that explores the notion of trust, companionship and facing up to consequences.

 

A Way Out offers something for everyone - may it be lean back or intense gameplay moments, action, adventure, exploration, puzzles, chase, stealth.

 

The narrative keeps you on your toes, offering a fresh, unique and compelling experience throughout. Hi everyone!

 

Announcing A Way Out at EA PLAY is incredibly exciting for everyone at Hazelight, and I’m thrilled to share a bit more about the game and the team with you!

I’ve always been passionate about creating and telling stories. I’ve been able to share my stories through my work as a movie director, but I’ve always loved and played videogames. One day, a friend involved in game development education asked me if I was interested in spending a few weeks making a game with a couple of students. I got super excited and came up with the idea for Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons on the very same day.

 

After six weeks of hard work we had a playable demo for Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons. I presented it to many different developers in the games community, until finally Starbreeze decided to help me out. There were many hard lessons to learn about game development. I had already made six feature films by this point, but they were all a walk in the park compared to creating a game. Movies are a great way of telling a story, but the potential of interactive storytelling through games is even greater.

 

After the release of Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons, the team and I were overwhelmed by the positive reception from industry critics, and proud to see the enthusiasm of the players as well. Knowing I wanted to keep making games, I decided to form Hazelight Studios with the core team behind Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons. When we first started out we were around 12 people, but building on our ambitions for this new game, the team is now 40 people strong.

Hazelight is all about making games that focus on story-driven experiences backed by innovative gameplay. We truly believe that there are ways to play and experience games that have yet to be discovered, and that’s what drives the team here at Hazelight.

 

Our first game, A Way Out, came about when a friend and I tried to find a co-op game that wasn’t just a drop-in/drop-out experience. I wanted to play a co-op game with a strong story, where the characters had unique personalities and goals. And that’s exactly what A Way Out is.

 

This game is co-op only—you can play it online, but to get the full experience and feel, we want you to play it together with a friend on your couch. A Way Out is going to cover a lot of gameplay ground, from action to exploration, from driving to puzzle-solving, and much more.

 

We’re also looking into how we innovate as we tell the story of these two characters. Players will experience the game’s story as it seamlessly shifts from a full-screen experience into cinematic split-screen formats. Basically, one player can be in a cutscene while the other player has full control.

 

Working with EA’s Originals program has been great. We have the creative freedom and trust from EA to deliver a game we truly believe in.

I can’t wait for you to play A Way Out when it releases in early 2018. I guarantee you an emotional journey unlike anything you’ve played before.

    Creators are required to submit documentation pitches which go through an approval process. All content must be new and original. Once a concept is approved, a development schedule with Alpha, Beta and Release milestones is created. Creations go through our full development pipeline, which Creators participate in. Bethesda Game Studios developers work with Creators to iterate and polish their work along with full QA cycles. The content is fully localized, as well. This ensures compatibility with the original game, official add-ons and achievements.
     
  • Are Creators Paid For Their Work?
    Yes. Just like our own game developers, Creators are paid for their work and start receiving payment as soon as their proposal is accepted and through development milestones.
     
  • Is Creation Club paid mods?
    No. Mods will remain a free and open system where anyone can create and share what they’d like. Also, we won’t allow any existing mods to be retrofitted into Creation Club, it must all be original content. Most of the Creation Club content is created internally, some with external partners who have worked on our games, and some by external Creators. All the content is approved, curated, and taken through the full internal dev cycle; including localization, polishing, and testing. This also guarantees that all content works together. We’ve looked at many ways to do “paid mods”, and the problems outweigh the benefits. We’ve encountered many of those issues before. The Evil Within 2 – Return to the Nightmare

 

Misery may love company, but that passion pales in comparison to how it obsesses over Sebastian Castellanos. It can’t get enough of him. It stalks him through every waking minute of his life, and follows him into the depths of his dreams, bringing horrifying visions of the traumas he has endured. It dogs him relentlessly with thoughts of the daughter he couldn’t save, the wife he drove away, the friends he lost, and the terrors he’s only barely survived. In The Evil Within 2, misery sinks its claws even deeper into Sebastian and it has no intention of letting go.

 

“Sebastian Castellanos is a former detective, but more importantly this time around, he’s a man struggling with loss and desperation,” says Game Director John Johanas. “He was a father who cared very deeply for his family and those around him, and now he’s alone in the world. Upon losing his family before the events of the first game, Sebastian became much rougher around the edges, and much more cynical –but he still remained faithful to his duty as a detective, with a very strong sense of right and wrong that even tragedy hasn’t been able to take away.”

He spent three years seeking answers to the questions that plagued him and trying to find the organization who ruined his life. Who is Mobius? What do they want? What is the true purpose of STEM?

“STEM is a piece of technology Mobius that allows for shared consciousness by connecting human minds,” explains Producer Shinsaku Ohara. “Mobius believes this shared conscious can bring order and peace to the world, but their true motives are unclear, and that’s what Sebastian has been trying to uncover.”

 

He found nothing, and lost everything in his search. Anyone who might have corroborated his story is either dead or in the wind.

“Sebastian lost his partners from the police force, and learned that Juli Kidman, a rookie he had personally taken under his wing, was working for the very people who threw him into that nightmare,” explains Johanas. “No one believed his story, and Sebastian was let go from the police department and threw himself deeper into his hunt for the truth. Unable to find any solid leads, Sebastian has become emotionally broken and has fallen back on his old habit of drinking.”

 

But from this darkness comes a chance at redemption. “Kidman, Sebastian’s former partner, shows up out of the blue and tells him that the daughter he thought was dead is actually alive,” says Ohara. This is just the catalyst for new nightmares that will unfold in The Evil Within 2. “Not only has Lily been alive all along, but Mobius has her and is using her as the main test subject in their renewed attempts to create a STEM world. But she has gone missing in STEM, and the only way to save her is for Sebastian to go in after her and track her down.”

 

After all his suffering – in part at the hands of Kidman – Sebastian is more than hesitant to believe his former partner. “Sebastian survived the events at Beacon Mental Hospital and learned that Kidman was, in fact, a double agent for Mobius and was responsible for his experiences in the first game,” says Johanas. “She’s the last person Sebastian feels he can trust. Kidman, as a current member of Mobius, is the one to seek Sebastian out, believing he is the best person to go back into STEM and find Lily.”

As Sebastian ventures once more into STEM, Kidman will offer support from the outside, both giving him useful information about the world Mobius has created, as well as providing him with a tether to the real world.

 

“At the beginning of the game, Sebastian doesn’t trust Kidman for obvious reasons,” adds Ohara. “But as the story progresses, Sebastian learns about Kidman’s true motive for working as a Mobius agent.”

Now Sebastian will have to put his faith in Kidman as he faces off against new enemies if he is going to have any chance at saving Lily and getting his life back.

As for BJ himself? When we last saw him at the end of Wolfenstein: The New Order, he wasn’t in the best shape. That blue-collar guy who gets things done.”

 

“What I love about making Wolfenstein games is that we’ve been given this amazing freedom to do things that are absolutely fearless from a story perspective,” Matthies adds. “We can tell a story that is much more intimate, that is just brutal, and also incredibly strange in a way. The Elder Scrolls: Legends – Heroes of Skyrim

 

 

This brand-new set of over 150 cards will include new mechanics like Shouts, familiar characters, and, of course, dragons… lots of dragons.

 

Heroes of Skyrim will be available on June 29 on all platforms.

 

Familiar Faces (and Dragons!)

 

Heroes of Skyrim reintroduces some of our favorite characters from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, including allies like Aela the Huntress, J’Zargo and Delphine, as well as some Dragons of legend like Alduin and Paarthurnax. The Dragons in Heroes of Skyrim appear across all attributes, and many will reward players for playing them with other Dragons.

 

Shouts, Companions, & More

 

One of the biggest new gameplay changes in Heroes of Skyrim is the introduction of a couple of new keywords, namely the Shouts. Much like in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Shouts have three different levels that increase in power. Where in Skyrim you would be able to “level up” a Shout by finding words of power, your Shouts in Legends power up the more you use them. The first time you play a Shout, you get its first level. The second time, you get the second level, and the third time… well, you get the picture. There are even cards that progress your Shout cards more quickly, which we’ll talk more about soon.

 

The Companions are represented by a spin on the Change ability introduced in The Fall of the Dark Brotherhood. Companions will change into their Beast Form when you break a rune. Beast Forms are often more powerful, and bringing the beast out can even trigger abilities.

 

From the College of Winterhold to the Civil War, Heroes of Skyrim represents even more great themes from Skyrim. This is only the beginning, and we’ll be talking a lot more about Heroes of Skyrim in the coming weeks leading up to launch. The set features over 150 brand-new cards, and Heroes of Skyrim card packs will be available for purchase on June 29. ESO: Morrowind – New DLC Announced

 

Your adventures in the recently released Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind might have just begun, but that’s not stopping the team at ZeniMax Online Studios from bringing you even more great content. During the Bethesda E3 2017 Showcase, the Horns of the Reach and the Clockwork City DLC game packs were both teased, giving players just a quick glimpse into the future of ESO. Horns of the Reach will be coming in August and Clockwork City will follow later this year.

 

Horns of the Reach

Horns of the Reach will introduce two new dungeons (Bloodroot Forge and Falkreath Hold), and is packed full of excitement to keep your adventure rolling. This DLC game pack will also include new items, monster masks and achievements. You’ll be able to grab Horns of the Reach via the in-game Crown Store.

When Horns of the Reach launches, the base game will also get a major (free!) update. This update will include a new Battlegrounds map (Arcane University) and a new Battlegrounds ruleset (Chaos Ball), in addition to new homes, furnishings, cosmetics, Crown Crates and holiday events. This update will be available to all ESO players (though only Morrowind owners will have access to the Battlegrounds content), even if they don’t pick up Horns of the Reach.
